Fire Safety Awareness
Fire Prevention Week at the University of Pennsylvania
Sunday, October 3rd to Saturday, October 9th
The 243 Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania and its Fire and Emergency Services (FES), will be working to educate the UPenn community on the issues of fire prevention, safety, and awareness.
Throughout the week, Locust Walk – a high traffic corridor on the University of Pennsylvania campus – will be lined from 34th Street to 38th Street with signs displaying safety tips, fire-related statistics, and petitions to take fire safety seriously.
During Fire Prevention Week, the Daily Pennsylvanian will feature an article about Seth, The 243 Foundation, and a presentation by Josh Dembowitz (details below).
On Thursday, October 7th from 10 AM to 1 PM, The 243 Foundation will feature a photo display along with burnt remnants from residential fires, including electrical cords, clothing, flooring, and furniture on College Green. Fire safety pamphlets will be distributed and FES representatives will be present to answer questions and offer important information about fire safety.
Also on Thursday, October 7th, from 7 PM to 8 PM in Amado Recital Hall (IR 110) in Irvine Auditorium located at 3401 Spruce Street, The 243 Foundation will hold a Fire Safety Presentation beginning with a presentation about Seth and his story. The 243 Foundation hopes that a fellow student’s personal story of loss will encourage students to take personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of their housemates and families. Josh Dembowitz’s talk will include a video from FES about the devastating 2006 fire that destroyed an off-campus residence of seven Penn undergrads. Both Fire and Emergency Services and Josh will be present to answer questions and to distribute Fire Safety Presentation Request Forms.
We thank Marathon Grill for providing refreshments for the presentation.
